La tortuga (Marcelo Allasino, 2020)

theatre

Online on-camera monologue of a character recovering from an operation for uterine cancer, at a time when he is making use of social networks and video calls. Performed in the confinement of 2020, it generates a similar situation, albeit for different reasons.

Among the remote theatre options that emerged as a result of the 2020 confinement, the Argentinian platform Teatro Uaifai appeared, aimed at collecting virtual experiences. La Tortuga was the first of these pieces to run in September of the same year. A single actress performs the text on camera. The character has just undergone cancer surgery, and is therefore recovering when she discovers the possibilities of the internet to communicate with the outside world. She plans a phone call with her best friend from her adolescence, and from it she connects with elements of her unresolved past. Parallels are drawn between the character’s confinement and that experienced by viewers during the months of the pandemic.

Released during the confinement in May 2020.
