A journey in which 20 participants equipped with a Walkman walk through the Chamberí neighbourhood of Madrid following the audio route narrated on a 90-minute cassette tape, which, according to the company, “will wear out like the body of the knight-errant”.
The piece aims to translate mechanisms and experiences from Cervantes’ novel into an audio-guided experience in which the participant is invited to read, listen, observe, think, imagine and walk. Right from the start, participants are given some instructions, such as wearing comfortable shoes, keeping their mobile phones switched off and going on an empty stomach or only having eaten “cheese and onions”, one of several allusions to Cervantes’ novel. The starting question is what it would mean to be Quixote or Sancho today, how we know the world and how we modify it through our gaze.
