Prometheus Bound (Meiro Koizumi, 2019)

immersion,theatricality,virtual reality

A video and virtual reality featuring Prometheus as a metaphor for the desire for technological evolution.

The piece is divided into two parts, one created through video and the other through virtual reality. The starting point is the tragedy Prometeo encadenado [Prometheus Bound] by Aeschylus, specifically exploring the tension between humanity and technology. Koizumi collaborated with an individual suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to create the piece, addressing a science fiction vision of prosperity based on technological evolution. The creator has continued to delve into the myth of Prometheus in other works, including the virtual reality performance Prometheus Unbound (2021) and the installation Prometheus the Fire-Bringer (2023).
