Hitsudankai (From Now/Here, Silence) (Orangcosong, 2017)

autotheater,immersion,performance

Participatory performance where participants are invited to communicate silently through a large blank paper using colored markers.

A group of participants is invited to be part of this collaborative performance where the only means of communication is through writing, whether it be through text or drawings, which must be done in absolute silence. There are two versions of the piece: the time-limited version, which can last between one and two hours and is ideal for six participants per table according to the company, and the open-ended version, which can last from two to ten hours and allows for a variable and free number of participants who can enter and leave the table at will. The working medium is a large sheet of paper, which can be placed on a table or on the floor, and participants are provided with colored markers and pencils. The game is initiated by a single question, “What is your name and what do you want to talk about?”

Premiered in Kyoto in 2017
