Cosmogony (Gilles Jobin, 2021)

distributed space,telepresence

Digital performance featuring three dancers who perform in real-time for an audience watching them via video.

A dance and performance piece executed by three dancers wearing motion capture suits in a space in Geneva, the company’s headquarters. Their movements are transferred to their digital avatars, inserted into a three-dimensional space generated with a virtual engine, and transmitted to the space where the audience experiences the piece. The proposal plays with scales, making the bodies enormous like buildings; with densities, composing the bodies at times as solid entities and at other times as thin interwoven threads; with textures and colors, overlaying them onto the bodies. By mid-2023, it had been represented or projected in ten cities across eight countries on three continents, without the company physically traveling to those locations.

Premiered in 2021 at the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA).
