Hamlet Kebab (Rodrigo García, 2016)

mediatized theatre,site-specific

A version of Hamlet set in a kebab, performed by eight non-professional actors, which is captured and broadcast live in real time, with the addition of some audiovisual inserts, for spectators watching the play from a cinema.

The Hayal kebab in the French town of Aubervilliers and its surroundings form the main space of this version of Hamlet, performed by non-professional actors and four extras. A film set captures the rigorously planned performance in real time, which is offered to the audience in the cinema of the city’s MK2 Library. To complete the piece, some of the scenes are pre-recorded audiovisual inserts, either specifically created or archival, often aggressively edited, in contrast to the directness of the images captured in real time in medium and close-up shots.

Performed on 8, 9 and 10 March, produced and commissioned by the Thèatre de la Commune de Aubervilliers.
