Die Parallelwelt (Kay Voges y Alexander Kerlin, 2018)

amplified,distributed space,intermedial,theatre

The show explores the theory of the existence of parallel worlds and their possible divergence based on a certain event that generates different simultaneous realities, for which it is performed in two theatres at the same time that interact with each other through video.

Performed simultaneously at the Berliner Ensemble and the Schauspiel Dortmund, it has the subtitle “a simultaneous performance about the simultaneity of the non-simultaneous”. It tells the story of a life unfolded through two identical stage worlds. The stage space of each theatre is divided into four parts, where two are always screen and the others alternate stage and screen. Each space scenically represents one of the worlds, and one screen segment shows the stage action in real time as captured by a camera. Next to it, another segment picks up the image coming from the camera of the other theatre. The spectators thus exist in different representations, which dialogue through the dual video they have in common.

Premiered on 15 September 2018 simultaneously in Berlin and Dortmund as the opening of the 2018/19 season of the Berliner Ensemble and Schauspiel Dortmund (Germany).
