The Ethno-Cyberpunk Trading Post & Curio Shop On The Electronic Frontier (Guillermo Gómez-Peña, 1994)

Interactive performance in which Guillermo Gómez-Peña performs actions in response to proposals sent by online visitors.

The concept of ethno-cyborg was created by Gómez-Peña from this performance, in which he proposed to receive indications from online visitors, characterised by elements of Mexican and Chicano culture. They transmitted their proposals anonymously by online messenger or fax, in a way that provoked the projection of their philias and whims, politicising the then nascent cyberculture in reflection of the racial question. A Mexican immigrant on the US border, the artist has explored the cultural aspect profusely through various arts and has published several books and articles on the subject.
